Die Stadt Longwy liegt an der belgischen und luxemburgischen Grenze und ist vor allem für ihre prestigeträchtigen, von Vauban errichteten Festungsanlagen bekannt, die auf der Liste des UNESCO-Weltkulturerbes stehen. Longwy ist bekannt und anerkannt für sein Know-how im Kunsthandwerk der Fayencen und Emails, einer Keramiktätigkeit, die sich im 19. und 20. Eine sehr schöne Sammlung aus dieser Produktion schmückt seit 1975 das Stadtmuseum; der Reichtum und die Vielfalt dieser Werke werden demnächst im neuen Museum von Longwy-Bas zu sehen sein.
