Der Staudamm von Naussac wurde 1983 in Betrieb genommen. Sie ist 50 m hoch und verfügt über einen Einlaufturm, der das Wasser in das 1997 in Betrieb genommene Pumpspeicherwerk leitet, sowie über ein Hohlstrahlventil.
Die Funktion des Naussac-Staudamms besteht darin, bei Niedrigwasser eine Mindestwassermenge in den Flüssen Allier und Loire aufrechtzuerhalten, um folgende Zwecke zu erfüllen
