The purpose of the Naussac dam is to maintain a minimum flow in the Allier and Loire rivers during periods of low water, in order to satisfy the various uses of water. The dam was commissioned in 1983 and the plant in 1997. The 50 m-high weight dam is equipped with an intake tower, which conveys water to the pump-turbine plant, and a hollow-jet gate. The installations are equipped with crossing devices for migratory species (salmon, etc.). The lake has a volume of 185 million m3 and a surface area of almost 1,000 hectares, where you can enjoy water sports such as sailing, catamaran sailing and canoeing, as well as walking, mountain biking and fishing (only boats with electric motors are authorized), and land-based activities such as hiking, mountain biking, horse-riding and tree-climbing.
