El objetivo de la presa de Naussac es mantener un caudal mínimo en los ríos Allier y Loira durante los periodos de estiaje, para poder satisfacer los distintos usos del agua. La presa entró en servicio en 1983 y la central en 1997. Esta presa de 50 m de altura está equipada con una torre de toma de agua, que transporta el agua a la central de bombeo, y una compuerta de chorro hueco. Las instalaciones están dotadas de dispositivos de paso para las especies migratorias (salmones, etc.). El lago tiene un volumen de 185 millones de m3 y cubre casi 1.000 hectáreas, donde se puede disfrutar de deportes acuáticos como vela, catamarán y piragüismo, así como de senderismo, bicicleta de montaña, pesca (sólo se permiten embarcaciones con motor eléctrico) y actividades terrestres como senderismo, bicicleta de montaña, equitación y escalada de árboles.
