Das Denkmal wurde 1919 , kurz nach seinem Tod , unter Laurentis Leitung errichtet.

Louis Laurenti (1841–1916) war von 1885 bis 1896 Bürgermeister von Menton und spielte eine grundlegende Rolle bei der Stadterneuerung dieser Zeit. Er gilt als Verwalter und Wohltäter der Stadt und trug zu ihrem Ansehen und ihrer Infrastruktur bei.
