Dieser Weg trägt den Namen "Chemin de l'Orbandale", in Anlehnung an die mittelalterliche und poetische Bezeichnung der Stadt Chalon-sur-Saône. Der Historiker Léonard Bertaut, der 1662 ein Buch mit dem Titel "L'Illustre Orbandale, ou l'histoire ancienne et moderne de la ville et cité de Chalon-sur-Saône" veröffentlicht hat, zitiert mehrere Quellen, die ihn erwähnen. Laut ihm stammt dieser Name von den drei goldenen Kreisen (orbes im Altfranzösischen), die das Wappen der Stadt zieren und die drei Reihen goldener Ziegel symbolisieren, die an den alten Stadtmauern erscheinen, die die Stadt umschlossen.
