Eine besondere Geschichte über die Kirche erzählt, dass während eines Piratenangriffs im Mittelalter die Nonnen, die im Kloster lebten, fliehen mussten. Eine Nonne blieb zurück und betete zur Jungfrau Maria, sie zu retten. In diesem Moment brach der Felsen, auf dem das Kloster steht, in zwei Teile, wodurch die Piraten ins Meer fielen. Dies erklärt laut lokaler Tradition, warum die Kirche auf einer Art Insel liegt, die durch einen schmalen Wasserstreifen vom Festland getrennt ist.
