Una historia especial sobre la iglesia cuenta que durante un ataque de piratas en la Edad Media, las monjas que vivían en el convento tuvieron que huir. Una monja se quedó atrás y oró a la Virgen María para que la salvara. En ese momento, la roca sobre la que se encuentra el convento se rompió en dos, haciendo que los piratas cayeran al mar. Esto explica, según la tradición local, por qué la iglesia está en una especie de islote separado del continente por una estrecha franja de agua.
