Die Belagerung von Smerwick fand im November 1580 in Ard na Caithne während der Zweiten Desmond-Rebellion in Irland statt. Eine Truppe von zwischen 400 und 700 päpstlichen Freiwilligen, hauptsächlich spanischer und italienischer Herkunft, landete in Smerwick, um die katholischen Rebellen zu unterstützen. Sie wurden gezwungen, sich in die nahegelegene Festung Dún an Óir zurückzuziehen, wo sie von den Engländern belagert wurden. Der päpstliche Kommandant verhandelte und wurde bestochen, und die Verteidiger ergaben sich innerhalb weniger Tage. Die Offiziere wurden verschont, aber die anderen Ränge wurden auf Befehl des englischen Kommandanten Arthur Grey, dem stellvertretenden Lord von Irland, kurzerhand hingerichtet.
