Der Bauernhof wurde 894 durch einen Vulkanausbruch des Katla zerstört. Er befand sich auf einem Hügel und diente als Wegweiser für Reisende in der flachen Landschaft. Warum, weiß niemand, aber jeder, der hier zum ersten Mal vorbeikam, sollte einen Stein auf den Hügel legen, um so vor Unglück und Rückschlägen auf dem Weg bewahrt zu bleiben. Um diese Tradition zu ehren, ließ die Straßenverwaltung damals einige Lastwagen mit Steinen abladen.
