La ferme a été détruite en 894 par une éruption volcanique de la Katla. Elle était située sur une colline et servait de balise pour les voyageurs dans le paysage plat. Pourquoi, personne ne le sait, mais tous ceux qui passaient ici pour la première fois étaient censés poser une pierre sur la colline pour rester à l'abri de la malchance et des revers en cours de route. Pour honorer cette tradition, l'Administration des routes publiques a déversé à l'époque plusieurs camions de pierres.
