La granja fue destruida en 894 por una erupción volcánica de la Katla. Estaba situada en un pequeño monte y servía como faro para los viajeros en el paisaje llano. Por alguna razón que nadie sabe, se suponía que todos los que pasaban por aquí por primera vez debían colocar una piedra en el montículo para mantenerse a salvo de la mala suerte y contratiempos en el camino. Para mantener viva esta tradición, la Administración de Vías Públicas depositó en su momento varios camiones de piedras.
