Ostalpen ist die Bezeichnung für den östlichen Teil der Alpen. Sie umfassen die Gebirgszüge östlich einer gedachten Linie vom Bodensee entlang des Rheins über den Splügenpass zum Comer See. Im Vergleich zu den Westalpen sind sie niedriger und sanfter, mit weniger hohen Pässen. Die Ostalpen durchziehen von der Schweiz und Liechtenstein aus ganz Österreich – von Vorarlberg bis hin zum Burgenland und erreichen ungarisches Gebiet sowie den Nordrand Italiens bis nach Slowenien. Sie durchstreifen auch Deutschland, wo sie den gesamten Alpenanteil bilden.
