Die Moerdijk und die Moerdijkbrücke sind ein Begriff für die Niederlande. Wer kennt nicht den Ausdruck "über oder unter der Moerdijk". Der Ausdruck über/unter der Moerdijk ist ungefähr gleichbedeutend mit über/unter den großen Flüssen und hängt damit zusammen, dass Moerdijk schon immer der Ort war, an dem die wichtige Nord-Süd-Verbindung von Südholland nach Nordbrabant das Hollandsch Diep überquerte. Es insinuert auch einen Unterschied in "Verhalten", "Kultur" oder "Mentalität" über und unter dieser physischen Grenze.
