Die Deltawerke sind ein Verteidigungssystem gegen Hochwasser aus dem Meer für die Provinzen Zeeland und Südholland. Diese gigantischen Arbeiten wurden durch die Wasserflut von 1953 ausgelöst, bei der in Zeeland fast 1800 Menschen ums Leben kamen.
