Die ehemalige NDSM-Werft war einst ein Ort, an dem riesige Schiffe gebaut wurden.
Alle Bauarbeiten standen bis 1928 unter der Leitung des bekannten Amsterdamer Architekten und Ingenieurs G.J. Langhout, der unter anderem für Werkspoor arbeitete und zusammen mit dem Architekten J.F. Staal das Telegraafgebäude an der Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal entwarf.
Jetzt ist es ein sich entwickelndes kulturelles Gebiet. Viele kreative Unternehmen siedeln sich auf dem Gelände an, darunter MTV. Es werden auch Theateraufführungen und andere großangelegte (Dance-)Veranstaltungen organisiert.
