Ermelo ; Nedersächsisch: Armelo, früher: Armel) ist ein Ort in der Veluwe in der niederländischen Provinz Gelderland und die Hauptstadt der Gemeinde Ermelo. Die Gemeinde Ermelo hat etwa 26.225 Einwohner. In seiner ersten Nennung aus dem 9. oder 10. Jahrhundert hieß Ermelo Irminlo. Der Teil lo verweist auf einen auf Sandboden gelegenen Wald. Für Irmin werden verschiedene Erklärungen gegeben; "groß", "göttlich, erhaben, groß", oder es verweist auf einen altgermanischen Gott mit dem Namen "Irmin". Möglicherweise gibt es eine Verbindung zum sächsischen Heiligtum Irminsul.
