Es liegt südlich der Stadt Leeuwarden, nordwestlich von Grouw und nordöstlich von Rauwerd. Durch das Dorfgebiet fließt der Zwin und entlang der Dorfgrenzen De Jokse und die Mosel. Zusammen mit Friens, Aegum und Idaard bildet es eine gemeinsame Gemeinschaft. Das Dorf hatte einen eigenen Hafen, dieser wurde jedoch letztendlich zugeschüttet. Im Jahr 2021 hatte das Dorf 1.085 Einwohner. Zu dem Dorf gehören auch die Nachbarschaften De Drie Romers und Tsienzerburen.
