Dieser Park wurde auf den Überresten der Stadtverteidigung entwickelt. Der Park wurde im spätlandschaftlichen Stil von Salomon van der Paauw entworfen und zwischen 1836 und 1842 erbaut. Später wurden neben dem Park Häuser für die Oberschicht gebaut.
Der Park ist ein kommunales Denkmal.
