Es liegt nordwestlich von Pingjum, nordöstlich von Zürich, östlich der Wattenmeer und südlich/südöstlich von Harlingen. Der Dorfkern liegt beidseitig des Harlingervaart, mit den meisten Wohngebäuden auf der Westseite. Über den Kanal führt eine Brücke des Typs Heechhout, die die beiden Dorfteile miteinander verbindet. Im Jahr 2021 hatte das Dorf 550 Einwohner. Zur Gemeinde gehört auch die Ansiedlung Dijksterburen. In dieser Ansiedlung steht auch die De Eendracht, eine mahlfähige Poldermühle.
