Het ligt ten noordwesten van Pingjum, ten noordoosten van Zurich, ten oosten van de Waddenzee en ten zuiden/zuidoosten van Harlingen. De dorpskern ligt aan beide kanten van de Harlingervaart, met de meeste bewoning aan de westkant.Over de vaart is een brug gelegen van het type Heechhout, die zo de twee dorpsdelen met elkaar verbindt. In 2021 telde het dorp 550 inwoners. Onder het dorp valt ook de buurtschap Dijksterburen. Bij deze buurtschap staat ook de De Eendracht, een maalvaardige poldermolen.
