Startenhuizen ist ein Weiler, der in der Gemeinde Het Hogeland liegt. Die Grenze verläuft entlang der Eemshavenweg. Vor der kommunalen Neugliederung von 1990 gehörte es zum Dorf Garsthuizen. Danach erhielt dieser Teil, ein Dutzend Häuser, den Namen Startenhuizen, was tatsächlich der Name eines westlich gelegenen Gebiets ist, in dem sechs Bauernhöfe liegen. Der Name Startenhuizen stammt von Staart, einem schmalen Landstrich, das heißt dem Land, das zwischen dem Maarvliet und dem Startenhuistermaar liegt.
