Startenhuizen es una aldea que se encuentra en el municipio de Het Hogeland. La frontera está en el Eemshavenweg. Antes de la reorganización municipal de 1990, formaba parte del pueblo de Garsthuizen. Posteriormente, esta parte, unas diez casas, recibió el nombre de Startenhuizen, que en realidad es el nombre de una zona situada al oeste, donde se encuentran seis granjas. El nombre Startenhuizen proviene de "staart", una estrecha franja de tierra, es decir, la tierra situada entre el Maarvliet y el Startenhuistermaar.
