Es liegt nordwestlich von Workum, südwestlich von Parrega und südöstlich von Gaast. Der Dorfkern liegt am Djippert, der es mit der Dijkvaart verbindet. Die Dijkvaart fließt entlang des ehemaligen Zuiderzeedijk. Bei Ferwoude und Workum gibt es ein großes Außendeichgebiet entlang des Zeedijk, bevor das IJsselmeer beginnt. Im Jahr 2021 hatte das Dorf 225 Einwohner. Zum Dorf gehören auch die Wohnplätze Doniaburen, Scharneburen und Wonneburen.
