Noord-Sleen liegt nördlich des Dorfes Sleen, das früher auch als Zuid-Sleen bekannt war. 'Zuid-Sleen' hat sich jedoch zum Hauptdorf der ehemaligen Gemeinde Sleen entwickelt, die am 1. Januar 1998 in die Gemeinde Coevorden eingegliedert wurde. Aus Bodenfunden kann abgeleitet werden, dass in Noord-Sleen bereits lange vor der Zeitenwende eine Besiedlung stattgefunden hat, was auch durch die Hünenbetten an der Hunebedweg nördlich der Zweeloërstraat belegt wird.
