Noord-Sleen si trova a nord del villaggio di Sleen, che in passato era anche conosciuto come Zuid-Sleen. Tuttavia, 'Zuid-Sleen' si è sviluppato nel villaggio principale dell'ex comune di Sleen, che il 1 gennaio 1998 è stato incorporato nel comune di Coevorden. Dai reperti archeologici si può dedurre che a Noord-Sleen ci siano state abitazioni già molto prima dell'era cristiana, come dimostrano anche i dolmen lungo la Hunebedweg a nord della Zweeloërstraat.
