Veenhuizen ist ein Dorf mit etwa 800 Einwohnern in der Provinz Drenthe in den Niederlanden. Im frühen 19. Jahrhundert wurde in Veenhuizen von der Gesellschaft für Wohlwollen eine Reformwohnungskolonie für Arme und Obdachlose gegründet. Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts wurde der Komplex in eine Strafkolonie umgewandelt. Das Dorf wurde 1984 für jedermann zugänglich und ist seit 1998 Teil der Gemeinde Noordenveld. Hier befindet sich das Nationale Gefängnismuseum. Zusammen mit anderen Kolonien, die von der Gesellschaft für Wohlwollen gegründet wurden, wurde Veenhuizen 2021 in die UNESCO-Welterbeliste aufgenommen, als Zeugnis für eine einzigartige Methode der Wohnreform und Stadtplanung.
