Hijum ist ein Dorf in der Gemeinde Leeuwarden in der Provinz Friesland, Niederlande. Im Januar 2017 hatte es eine Bevölkerung von etwa 385 Menschen. Es wurde 1431 erstmals als Hehem erwähnt. Der Name könnte "die Ansiedlung von Haie" bedeuten. Hijum ist ein Terpdorf mit einer radialen Struktur, das sich in der Nähe der Middelzee entwickelt hat. Um 1900 wurde der Terp bis auf die Kirche ausgegraben. Die niederländisch-reformierte Kirche und der Turm wurden im 12. Jahrhundert erbaut und 1976 restauriert.
