Emmen ; Drents: Em'm) ist eine Stadt in der niederländischen Provinz Drenthe. Sie ist der größte Ort in der gleichnamigen Gemeinde Emmen. Der Ort selbst hatte am 1. Januar 2021 eine Einwohnerzahl von 56.640. Emmen erfüllt eine zentrale Funktion in der Region Zuidenveld und darüber hinaus. Charakteristisch ist der besondere städtebauliche Aufbau, der auch als die 'offene, grüne Stadt' bezeichnet wird. Neubaugebiete wurden in relativ großem Abstand vom bestehenden Kern erstellt, um landschaftlich wertvolle Gebiete zu erhalten. Der Spitzname von Emmen ist Vlinderstadt, als indirekte Anspielung auf den ehemaligen Zoo Emmen, der im März 2016 von Wildlands Adventure Zoo Emmen abgelöst wurde.
