Ridderhofstad Bolestein entstand aus einem Wohnturm aus dem 14. Jahrhundert, der von Ritter Derck de Bole gebaut wurde, der Schöffe von Utrecht war. Zahlreiche wichtige Bewohner sollten nach ihm Bolestein besitzen. Im 17. Jahrhundert wurde das Schloss zu einem Landsitz umgebaut, aber das heutige Aussehen erhielt das Haus erst zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts. Von 1942-60 war das Haus im Besitz der Gemeinde Maarssen. Der ursprüngliche Plan, es zu einem Rathaus zu machen, wurde nicht umgesetzt. Es wurde jedoch zur Polizeistation. Der vorherige Bewohner von Bolestein war der bekannte Filmregisseur Mathijs van Heiningen. Momentan befindet es sich im Besitz eines bekannten Geschäftsmannes, der das Haus im Jahr 2000 gründlich restauriert hat.
