Der Ursprung des Namens lässt sich aus einer Kontraktion von zwei Wörtern ableiten, nämlich Arenborg und del, eine kleine schüsselförmige Vertiefung oder Grube. Der Park befindet sich oben an der Steilkante, auf der hohen Maasterrasse.
Der Park wird im Norden von der A67 umschlossen, im Osten von der Herungerbergstraße mit dem Café Backus, im Süden von einem kleinen Wohngebiet mit Straßen, die nach den Protagonisten des Venlo-Vorfalls benannt sind, und im Westen von der niedrigen Terrasse.
