Der Bloesempark entstand nach einer Spende von 400 Kirschbäumen an Amstelveen durch den Japan Women's Club im Jahr 2000. Jeder Baum hat einen Namen: 200 Bäume tragen einen japanischen, die übrigen 200 einen niederländischen Frauennamen. Der Park ist inzwischen ein beliebter Ort für die japanische Gemeinschaft. Jedes Jahr, wenn die Kirschbäume blühen, findet das 'Hanami Matsuri'-Fest statt, bei dem gefeiert wird, dass der Frühling begonnen hat und die Besucher unter den Bäumen picknicken. Die Gemeinde Amstelveen organisiert dann das Cherry Blossom Festival, mit vielen prominenten Gästen.
