Blick auf Rottumeroog und Rottumeroog Borkum Die Name bedeutet: Insel (Auge) der Rottum. Die Insel war für 60 % im Besitz der ehemaligen Kloster-Juliana in diesem Dorf. Der restliche Teil war im Besitz des Oldeklooster.
Es grenzt im Norden an die Nordsee und im Süden an das Wattenmeer. Rottumerplaat im Westen. Die Insel ist, zusammen mit den südlichen Dünen und Rottumerplaat (ein kleiner Rest Eiland südlich von Rottumeroog), Naturschutzgebiet und unterliegt den strengsten Gesetzen der Natur Erhaltung Gesetz (Artikel 17). Rottumeroog und Rottumerplaat werden von Rijkswaterstaat, Staatsbosbeheer und das Ministerium für Landwirtschaft, Naturschutz und Lebensqualität gemeinsam verwaltet.
