Blankeveen: Meere von weißem Flaum
Tümpel entstehen in kesselförmigen Senken, in denen Regenwasser stehen bleibt. Im Boden befindet sich eine undurchlässige Schicht, wodurch das Wasser nicht absickern kann. Im Wasser und am Rand wachsen Pflanzen, die sich im nährstoffarmen Regenwasser wohlfühlen, wie Torfmoose, Moosbeeren, Sonnentau und Torf-Flaum. Unter dem lebendigen Pflanzenteppich bildet das abgestorbene Material eine Torfschicht und mit der Zeit kann ein Tümpel so ganz zuwachsen. In diesem Tümpel, dem Blankeveen, wächst Torf-Flaum so massenhaft, dass die Flaumkugeln im Juni eine wogende See aus Weiß bilden.
