Das Gein ist ein etwa 6 km langer Fluss zwischen Driemond und Abcoude. Er verbindet die Gaasp und das schmale Weesp mit der Angstel und verläuft westlich des Amsterdam-Rijnkanals vollständig innerhalb der Grenzen von Abcoude, seit dem 1. Januar 2011 der Gemeinde De Ronde Venen. Bis zum 1. August 1966 lag der östliche Teil, jenseits der Velterslaan, jedoch in der ehemaligen Gemeinde Weesperkarspel und von 1966 bis 1989 in der Gemeinde Amsterdam. Der Abschnitt innerhalb Abcoude bis zur Angstel heißt, weil er dort sehr schmal ist, das Nauwe Gein, wo die Brug Nauwe Gein den Kerkplein mit der Hoogstraat verbindet.
