Im Jahr 2003 wurde am Havenhoofd von Middelharnis das vom Künstler Jan Samson entworfene und gefertigte Kunstwerk De Palmboom enthüllt.
In den Worten von Jan Samson selbst: "Ein Leuchtturm am Havenhoofd von Middelharnis.
Eine stilisierte Palme, deren Blätter aus Fischen bestehen, lädt den Betrachter zu einer imaginären Reise ein. Ein warmes orangenes Licht von unten sorgt auch nachts für eine Markierung am Haringvliet."
