Die markante Fassade des hohen und breiten Doppelbaus mit seitlichem Vestibül und darüberliegender Balustrade wurde 1865 entworfen und in verschiedenen Cremetönen gestrichen.
Hinter der Fassade aus dem 19. Jahrhundert steckt eine lange Geschichte. Das Gebäude bestand ursprünglich aus zwei Häusern, deren älteste Bauspuren bis ins 15. Jahrhundert zurückreichen.
Während des gesamten 18. Jahrhunderts war das Gebäude im Besitz von Mitgliedern der prominenten Regentenfamilie Schagen, während das 19. Jahrhundert von der Adelsfamilie Alewijn dominiert wurde.
Die Familienwappen von Pieter Opperdoes Alewijn und seiner zweiten Frau Margaretha Swart schmücken noch immer die Fassade.
