Das Veerse Gat war eine Meereseinmündung in Zeeland, zwischen Noord-Beveland und Walcheren. Es wurde 1961 im Rahmen der Deltawerke durch den Veerse Gatdamm abgeschlossen. Damit wurde es zum Veerse Meer. Bis
1961 war das Veerse Gat der Zugang zum Hafen von Veere. Seitdem ist dieser Hafen nur noch über eine Schleuse im Zandkreekdam erreichbar und hat seine Bedeutung als Fischerhafen verloren.
Nach der Schließung schrieb Jaap Fischer das Lied Das Veerse Gat. Die erste Zeile des Refrains lautet: Das Loch ist zu, der Hafen liegt vor johoho, vor johohohoker.
In seinem Lied sagt Fischer voraus, dass 'Fritz und Wilhelm' jetzt wohl 'schnell' kommen werden und dass Veere eine Freizeitstadt werden wird.
