Bornia ist Teil eines Naturschutzgebiets, das aus drei Teilen besteht: Heidestein, Bornia und Noordhout, die von West nach Ost angeordnet sind. Zusammen bilden sie ein Gebiet von 642 ha, das größte zusammenhängende Gebiet der Utrechter Landschaft, wobei Bornia mit 289 ha das größte ist. Bornia liegt zwischen Zeist, Austerlitz und Driebergen-Rijsenburg in der Gemeinde Utrechtse Heuvelrug. Die A12 bildet die südliche Grenze des Naturschutzgebiets. Bornia ist hauptsächlich mit Wäldern und Heideland bedeckt. Charakteristisch für das Gebiet sind die Wanderdünen.
