Auf der Insel im Stausee Cranenweyer hängen Kormorane gerne zum 'Trocknen' in den Bäumen. Kanadische Gänse brüten hier jedes Jahr. In der Umgebung des Cranenweyer kommen verschiedene Orchideenarten vor. Im Frühjahr ist der Waldboden abwechselnd mit dem gelb blühenden Scharbockskraut und der weißen Waldanemone bedeckt.
