Die drei Fähren über die Bergsche Maas (Drongelse Veer, Capelse Veer und Bernse Veer) waren bis Februar 2024 für den gesamten Verkehr kostenlos. Dies war mehr als ein Jahrhundert zuvor das Zugeständnis der Regierung an die Bevölkerung entlang der Bergschen Maas gewesen. Dieser künstliche Fluss – eigentlich ein Kanal – wurde 1904 in Betrieb genommen, um die Maasmündung von Woudrichem nach Lage Zwaluwe zu verlegen. Damit wurde den immer wiederkehrenden Überschwemmungen rund um die Merwede ein Ende gesetzt.
Im Februar 2024 endete jedoch die Gratisfahrt für den motorisierten Verkehr. Fußgänger und Radfahrer werden weiterhin kostenfrei befördert.
