Die Prinsengracht ist die äußerste, von der Amsterdamer Altstadt am weitesten entfernte und mit 3,2 Kilometern längste Hauptgracht des Amsterdamer Grachtengürtels. Sie liegt im Stadtteil Amsterdam-Zentrum.Mit der Anlage der Prinsengracht wurde, wie mit den beiden anderen Hauptgrachten Heren- und Keizersgracht, 1612 auf Initiative des Amsterdamer Bürgermeisters Frans Hendricksz Oetgens van Waveren nach Plänen von Stadtbaumeister Hendrick Jacobsz Staets und Stadtvermesser Lucas Jansz Sinck begonnen. Sie wurde zu Ehren der Prinzen von Oranien benannt.
