Über den Ruiten Aa-Kanal und die Neue Ruiten Aa gelangen Sie nach Rijsdam. Dieses kleine Dorf verdankt seinen Namen dem Damm aus Reisig, den Carel Rabenhaupt 1627 errichtete, um Wasser nach Bourtange zu leiten. Das Bastion hatte Wasserprobleme, weil sein größter natürlicher Schutz, das weitläufige Bourtanger Moor, austrocknete. Heute ist Rijsdam eine wohlhabende Gegend. Schließlich führt die Route über eine Staustufe und, im Frühling und Sommer, durch das Naturschutzgebiet Hankamp Esch.
