ist eine Stadt und Kommune in Norwegen und die Hauptstadt der Provinz Trøndelag. Etwa 21.600 Menschen lebten hier 2014, davon etwa die Hälfte in der eigentlichen Stadt. Der Rest verteilt sich auf mehrere kleine Siedlungen auf dem Gemeindegebiet. Die Kommune grenzt im Norden an Namdalseid und Overhalla, im Nordosten und Osten an Snåsa, im Süden an Verdal, und im Westen an Inderøy und Verran.
Die Stadt ist landschaftlich besonders reizvoll gelegen. Sie liegt am Beitstadfjord, einem Seitenarm am Ende des Trondheimfjords und ist von Bergen umgeben. Dadurch war und ist sie per Schiff erreichbar, welches den Handel begünstigt hat.
