Steinkjer est une municipalité du comté de Nord-Trøndelag en Norvège. Il s'agit du chef-lieu du comté. Elle fait partie de la région du Innherred.
Steinkjer se trouve au fond du Beitstadfjord, la branche la plus au nord du Trondheimsfjord. À l'ouest, la municipalité est bordée par les zones montagneuses de la municipalité de Verran. À l'est se trouve la Suède.
