Die heutige Kirche ist der Überrest des alten Klosters der Gracianer, das 1647 von Francesc d'Almeida Cabral, dem Rechnungsprüfer des Palastes, erbaut wurde .
Das alte Kloster wurde Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts per Dekret vom 21. Februar 1844 abgerissen, um Platz für das heutige Rathaus zu machen. Im ersten Viertel des 20. Jahrhunderts existierte vor der Kirche noch ein wunderschöner Renaissance-Portikus, der verschwand, als die Trasse der Marquês de Pombal-Straße (ehemals Carrer do Carvalho) gebaut wurde. Im Inneren sticht die Kapelle Nossa Senhora dos Dolores sowie der Hauptaltar hervor, der eine interessante, weiß bemalte Holzschnitzerei aufweist.
Über dem Chorbogen befindet sich das Wappen des Gründers des alten Gracianerklosters.
