The current church is what remains of the old monastery of the Gracianos, which was built in 1647 by Francisco de Almeida Cabral, a judge of the palace.
The old convent was demolished at the end of the 19th century by decree of 21 February 1844 to make way for the current town hall . In the first quarter of the 20th century, there was still a beautiful Renaissance portico outside the church, which disappeared when the alignment of the Rua Marquês de Pombal (formerly Rua do Carvalho) was built. Inside, the chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows stands out, as does the main altar, which has an interesting wood carving painted in white.
On top of the choir arch is the coat of arms of the founder of the former monastery of the Gracianos.
