La iglesia actual es lo que queda del antiguo monasterio de los Gracianos, que fue construido en 1647 por Francisco de Almeida Cabral, oidor de palacio.
El antiguo convento fue demolido a finales del siglo XIX por decreto del 21 de febrero de 1844 para dar paso al actual ayuntamiento . En el primer cuarto del siglo XX aún existía en el exterior de la iglesia un bello pórtico renacentista, que desapareció al construirse la alineación de la calle Marquês de Pombal (antigua calle do Carvalho). En el interior destaca la capilla de Nossa Senhora dos Dolores , así como el altar mayor, que cuenta con una interesante talla de madera pintada de blanco.
Sobre el arco del coro se encuentra el escudo del fundador del antiguo monasterio de los Gracianos.
