Tolmin ist eine Stadt und eine Gemeinde in Slowenien. Sie liegt in einer Seehöhe von 200 Meter auf einem vorgeschobenen Plateau zwischen den Flüssen Soča und Tolminka, am Zusammenlauf des Soča-Tales mit der Bača und der Idrijca. Die Stadt zählt 3851 Einwohner, zusammen mit den 72 Ortschaften und Weilern hat die Gemeinde 11.980 Einwohner. Die Stadt ist seit Jahrhunderten das natürliche Zentrum der Umgebung.
