Czernowitz, auch Tschernowitz in der Westukraine ist die Hauptstadt der Oblast Tscherniwzi und die traditionelle Hauptstadt der Bukowina.
Czernowitz liegt in 248 m Seehöhe in einem von Hügeln durchzogenen Gebiet mit Wäldern und Feldern. Die Stadt erstreckt sich überwiegend am rechten Ufer des Pruth, an dem sich die Stadtbezirke Rajon Perschotrawnewyj und Rajon Schewtschenko befinden. Am linken Flussufer befindet sich der ehemals jüdische Stadtteil Sadhora im Rajon Sadhora.
